Killarney all set for opening round of the Irish Forestry rally championship

Crews will face six stages in and around Castleisland

The opening round of the Irish Forestry championship will be hosted by the Kerry Motor club on Sunday.

The rally will be based in and around Castleisland. Jordan and Paul Hone in the Ford Fiesta R5 are number one seeds. Whereas, Andrew Purcell and Liam Brennan at number 2 in their Volkswagon Polo R5.

Vivan Hamill and Gary Nolan are at number three in a Polo. Whereas, Stephen McCann and Derek Mackeral complete the top-five in their Ford Fiestas.

Michael Conlon with James McEnaney on notes lead the modified field in their Mark two escort while the J1000 class. Which caters for Junior drivers has 24 registered entrants headed by Ross Ryan and Peter Keohane in their Peugeot 107.

Last year’s winner of that championship Tommy Moffett with Domhnall Lennon in the navigator seat have moved up into the main field.

They will compete in Ford Fiesta Rally four. Six stages await the crews with the first car away shortly after 9:30.
