John Kiely tells print media he did not intend to condone Hayes actions

Limerick hurling manager John Kiely has refused to field questions from the broadcast media regarding Kyle Hayes sentencing.

Hayes received a two-year suspended sentence yesterday. He must also pay €10,000 compensation having been found guilty of two counts of violent disorder.

Kiely was speaking at the launch of the Munster hurling championship in Cahir co. Tipperary this afternoon.

However, the Limerick manager did address the issue with the print media. Kiely told the Irish Examiner; ‘his appearance as a character witness for Kyle Hayes did not mean he condoned the Limerick hurler’s behaviour inside and outside a nightclub in 2019’.

Hayes was part of the Limerick team which won the All-Ireland title last July. Hayes fifth title in total.

John Kiely caused some controversy earlier this year, picking Hayes for an Allianz League game with Dublin while Hayes awaited sentencing.
