Katie McCabe joined an exclusive club of Republic of Ireland Women’s National Team players by reaching 50 caps after lining out in the narrow loss to Belgium last Sunday. First capped whilst playing for Raheny United in the Women’s National League, McCabe got her debut run-out in an Istria Cup game against Hungary and also earned caps during spells at Shelbourne and Arsenal. Appointed as captain in 2017, the Dubliner has worn the armband for 26 consecutive games and the 25-year-old remains as determined as ever to continue adding to her impressive run of games.
McCabe said:
I’m very proud to reach 50 senior caps with the Republic of Ireland. I cannot describe the pride that I have in representing my country and it is something that I will never take for granted. Of course, I have to thank all of the people who helped me to reach this point. The different managers – Sue Ronan, Colin Bell, Tom O’Connor and Vera Pauw – all of the backroom staff through the years, every one of my team-mates…past and present, and the Irish supporters who have been incredible throughout my international career to date.
