Mixed fortunes for schools at Basketball league finals

The National Basketball arena played host to a busy day of finals

It was mixed fortunes for schools teams from Monaghan at the Post Primary School league finals in the National Arena earlier today. St Louis Secondary school claimed the U19 B All Ireland title when a strong final quarter seen them surge past Dominican College Griffith college. 16 points from most valuable player Niamh Maguire coupled with scores from Cora Mc Caughey and captain Aine Maguire was enough to see the Monaghan side to a 46 points to 42 win.

It wasn't to be for Patrician High school Carrickmacross in the U16 boys B All Ireland final as they lost out to Coliste Na Hinse from Bettystown by 44 points to 26. The Meath side led by 19 points to 13 at half time and while Patrician did work hard in the remaining 2 quarters they just did not have enough to match the fire power of the winners who seen Sean Phelan named as the MVP.
