Monaghan bottom of division one after bad defeat to Kildare

Monaghan are bottom of Allianz football league division one after losing 0-24 to 1-12 at St. Conleth’s park in Newbridge.

The Lilywhites were the better side overall and led 0-12 to 0-7 at interval before running out convincing winners despite having two players sent off.

The hosts started better and led 0-6 to no score on 11 minutes before three points from Conor McManus and one from Gary Mohan made it a three-point game ten minutes later.

Kildare subsequently registered five of the next eight scores as Glenn Ryan’s men moved five points clear at the half-time break.

Five successive points saw Kildare opened up a ten-point lead within 13 minutes of the restart; Monaghan had yet to score since the break.

The barren spell ended on 49 minutes when Conor McCarthy found the net and suddenly it was back to a seven-point game.
