Clare, winners in 2009 but three-time runners-up in this competition, have been going quietly about their business to date.
The Banner County came through their group campaign on top of the pile with good victories over Offaly and Wexford.
However, now they face another tough assignment against Monaghan. Who got through to the last eight despite losing against Wicklow in their second group game.
Scoring difference was good enough for the Farney County to advance in second place behind neighbours Cavan who they pipped by 2-11 to 1-13 in the opening round.
A semi-final against Laois or Wexford is the reward for the winners here.
