Monaghan fall at Lory Meagher Cup semi-final

New York have too much for Monaghan

New York booked a spot in the Lory Meagher cup final after a convincing win over Monaghan in the semi-final.

A game that the bookies certainly had in New York’s favour from the outset. However, it was Monaghan that started brightly, through a couple of Niall Arthur frees; seeing Arthur Hughes’ side lead mid-way through the first half.

New York, playing their first ever championship game, found their stride.

Indeed, a Conal McHugh point had Monaghan back in front. However, the lead did not last too long, as a New York goal in the 22nd minute changed the momentum of the game.

Another Arthur free was responded to with New York getting the next five scores, as they led by eight points at the half-time.

New York kept their pace in the second-half, as they recorded the first nine scores of the half.

Monaghan responded with two scores of their own through Arthur and Ethan Flynn. However, New York kept the score board ticking over before a Shane Slevin 59th minute goal, followed by a second goal on 66 minutes proved to be a consolation as New York ran out winners by a margin of 13 points.

New York will meet Cavan in next week’s final after scoring a 1-29 to 2-13 victory.
