Monaghan were relegated to Allianz league division two as Galway had too much for the farney in Inniskeen.
The opening score was 11 minutes in the making when Matthew Tierney fired over a point for Galway.
Jack McCarron opened Monaghan’s account for the afternoon with a two pointer. Michael Bannigan also finding the target as Monaghan took the lead after 14 minutes.
Oisin McHugh found the back of the Monaghan net on 16 minutes after a well worked move. McHugh rifling the ball past Rory Beggan.
Andrew Woods replied with a point for Monaghan, as Matthew Tierney and Rob Finnerty both registered points for Galway. It meant they took a four point lead to the break following a blustery opening half of play.
Galway led by five points at the break, 1-5 to four points.
Matthew Tierney opened the scoring for the second-half. Dessie Ward expertly finished the ball soccer style to the top left corner of the Galway net.
A Michael Bannigan point which followed brought Monaghan back to within two points after 44 minutes.
Johnny Maher and Cian Darcy got a point each before Paul Conroy using the aid if a strong breeze kicked a two-pointer.
Rory Beggan kicked an excellent two-pointer from the deck into the face of a strong breeze. Stephen O’Hanlon brought it back to a three point contest. After 53 minutes Galway were leafing 1-11 to 1-8.
Monaghan go down after defeat
Three points from outside the arc in the space of three minutes helped secure the result for Galway as Rob Finnerty kicked two, either side of a Paul Conroy attempt.
A moment of brilliance from Michael McCarville on 68 minutes saw him execute an excellent pick-up before he finished to the back of the Galway net, getting his sides second goal of the contest.
Stephen O’Hanlon got the final score of the contest on the brink of fulltime with a point as full-time was signalled in Inniskeen, confirming their relegation back to division two for 2027.
