Arthur Hughes side were unbeaten in their opening 3 games but had to forfeit 2 of those wins

Monaghan hurlers have seen their Lory Meagher championship campaign end in dramatic fashion. Having been unbeaten in their opening 3 games, the Farney side knew a win over Longford in round 4 would secure a day out in Croke Park. However a statement from Croke Park late on Friday evening noted that they had fielded an ineligible player for 2 of their 3 victories and would be forfeiting the points from those games. This left the side facing Longford needing a win to stay in the competition, however the visitors to Paric Gratten Inniskeen on Saturday came away with a 2-15 to 1-16 victory thus ensuring that even with a game left to play, Monaghan cannot finish in the top 2 of the group.

Speaking after that loss, Manager Arthur Hughes gave some clarity to our reporter Sean Mc Caffrey as to what had transpired in regards to the fielding of an underage player
