The Monaghan hurlers suffered a heavy defeat to Tyrone in Allianz hurling league division 3A losing 3-14 to 1-11 at Iniskeen.

Tyrone settled into the game quicker and Tiernan Murphy’s goal helped the visitors to a five-point cushion on 17 minutes.

Monaghan responded impressively, hitting four of the next six scores but still trailed 1-6 to 0-6 at the half-time break.

Tyrone doubled the margin 15 minutes into the second half and the visitors moved ten points clear six minutes later when CJ McCourty found the net.

Fergal Rafter replied with a goal for Monaghan on 57 minutes but his effort was cancelled out by a penalty goal from Damien Casey with 11 minutes remaining as Tyrone held on for a convincing win.
