Cavan to open away to Mayo

Kerry landed the Munster senior football championship for the fourth year in-a-row beating Clare a 0-23 to 1-13.

The victory see’s Kerry advance to group three of the All-Ireland championships and will face Monaghan in Killarney on May 18/19.

Sean O’Shea led the way for the Kingdom registering nine points. Kerry led 10 points to seven at half-time.

Kerry upped the ante in the second-half. David Clifford, Brosnan and Jason Foley opened up a seven-point gap. Kerry moved nine clear with 10 minutes remaining.

An Ikem Ugweru goal with seven minutes remaining gave Clare hope. However, Kerry responded with an O’Shea to tap over a free. O’Shea grabbed one form play sub Paul Geaney rounding off their tally.

Kerry now enter into Group four of the Sam Maguire Cup race with the Leinster runner-up, Monaghan and Meath.

Whereas, Clare enter group three with the Ulster champions, Tyrone and Cork.

Galway shock Mayo in Connacht

Meanwhile, Galway stung Mayo in the Connacht final to secure a 50th Connacht title by one point.

Mayo had led by two points going into injury time before winning out 16 points to 15.

Mayo will enter group two of the All-Ireland championship facing Roscommon and Cavan. Cavan will travel to Mayo on May 18/19.

However, Galway levelled the game early in the second-half through points from Jordan Flynn and Matthew Ruane.

A brace of points from Ryan O’Donoghue had Mayo 11 points to eight ahead entering the final-quarter.

A Gleeson free and Rob Finnerty had the Tribesmen level ahead of Shane Walsh sailing over a point ahead of fellow substitute Cillian O’Connor.

Mayo responded with another O’Donoghue free. Ruane’s third from play and a Tommy Conroy point had Mayo two ahead on 70 minutes.

However, the added minutes saw Padraic Joyce’s men dominate. Finnerty’s eighth point setup a Shane Walsh free to level game on 73 minutes.

Gleeson sailed over a 50 metres out two minutes later to clinch the Connacht championship.

Meanwhile, Galway enter group one of the All-Ireland championship with the Ulster runner-up, Derry and Westmeath.

Whereas, Mayo enter group two with Roscommon and Cavan and the Leinster champions.
