Monaghan completed a second-half comeback to make it two wins from two in group three of the All-Ireland Football Championship.
However, a Conor Meaney two-pointer in the 13th minute changed the momentum of the game.
Meaney grabbed another two-pointer, alongside two-pointers from Mark McInerney and Eoin Cleary saw the Clare men race into a seven point lead going into the half-time interval.
Playing with the wind in the second-half, Monaghan still knew they had work to do in this one. Jack McCarron was responsible for the first five scores of the second half, two of which were remarkable two-pointers.
The momentum from which carried Monaghan to help them get their elusive goal from Conor McCarthy.
A Jack McCarron two-pointer alongside a Rory Beggan 45 looked to have Monaghan home and dry. However, a goal from Aaron Griffin set a cat amongst the pigeons with three minutes of time to play.
Indeed, there was still time for Beggan to grab a pair of two-pointers to make the score line a lot more flattering for Gabriel Bannigan’s men.
Monaghan winning out 1-25 to 1-16.
