Mullahoran and Cavan Gaels open Cavan championship with victories

Mullahoran 3-12 Ballinagh 0-14

Mullahoran blew Ballinagh away in the second game of the Cavan senior football championship. Very much a game of goals for the hosts.

Cormac O’Reilly found the Ballinagh net after nine minutes, it was a defying score as Ballinagh were in arears for remainder of the game.

Four minutes before the break Niall McGahern found Mullahoran’s second goal as they led 2-7 to seven points at the break.

Ballinagh brought the game back to four points, however Enda Reilly rattled the Ballinagh net after 12 second-half minutes.

Balinagh continued to battle but it was Mullahoran who won out 3-12 to 14 points.

Crosserlough 0-13 Cavan Gaels 0-14

Cavan Gaels came out on top in this end to end game in Kingspan Breffni.

Gearoid McKiernan gave Gaels an early two point lead. James Smith and Oran Reilly cancelled the lead out.

That set the pace of the game, Peter Smith and Declan Meehan exchanged points. Brandon Boylan and Peter Smith scored inside a minute to move Crosserlough two ahead.

Boylan made the gap three points 60 seconds later. Within two minutes two Declan Meehan marks brought the game back to a point.

Pierce Smith and Meehan exchanged points to leave the score seven points to six in favour of Crosserlough at the break.

A Gearoid McKiernan double inside the opening minute of the second-half inched Cavan Gaels ahead. McKiernan added a mark before Dara McVeety opened Crosserlough’s second-half account.

McKiernan and Boylan exchanged scores with Pierce Smith equalising on 42 minutes. A McKiernan double saw Gaels lead 0-12 to 0-10 at the second water break.

Pierce Smith and Patrick Lynch exchanged scores with Lynch bringing the game back to a point with 10 minutes remaining.

Andrew Graham sent over a mark to with four minutes left to see Gaels lead 14 points to 12.

Dara McVeety made a difference a point in the 60th minute but that was it as Cavan Gaels held out for a one point win.
