The WRC could still arrive on Irish shores in 2026

It’s been a week of disappointment after Motorsport Ireland missed out on hosting a 2025 World Rally championship round.

Motorsport Ireland revealing they had not secured the required funding from the Government. The news was greeted with disappointment and frustration by both the association and rally fans.

Ireland had forwarded a proposal to the FIA to host a World Rally championship round from 2025 to 2027.

However, on Monday a statement from M.S.I noted, the Department of Sport were looking for a further six months to consider the proposal. The deadline had already passed.

Sean McCaffrey spoke to Killan Duffy from “On the Pacenote” regarding the situation. Sean firstly noted, while hosting in 2025 was gone, it could still happen in 2026.
