Poor second half sees Cavan hurlers lose to Longford

Cavan ended their Lory Meagher Cup campaign on a losing note following a 0-27 to 2-14 defeat at the hands of Longford at Kingspan Breffni Park.

Cavan started better and led 0-4 to 0-0 inside five minutes. Canice Maher accounted for two points while Fiachra Hughes and Diarmuid Carney were also on target.

Joe O’Brien initiated Longford’s recovery with their opening point a minute later and the visitors suddenly led 0-10 to 0-9 at half-time.

Longford subsequently moved 11 points clear 12 minutes from time and while Cavan replied with two late goals from Canice Maher and Rory Farrell, they still suffered a heavy defeat.
