It was a mixed night for players from Cavan and Monaghan in the Electric Ireland Sigerson Cup quarter finals. Cavan's Gary O'Rourke started between the sticks while Monaghan's David Garland scored 9 points for UCD but they still could not manage to beat TU Dublin at Grangegorman. Cavan's Niall Carolan, Monaghan's Robbie Mc Allister and Roscommon's Shane Cunnane all featured for TU Dublin. 16 points to 15 the final score after extra time. Tyholland's Darragh Trainor was immense for St Marys as they took UCC to extra time and penalties at the GAA Centre of Excellence in Abbotstown. The game ended 1-10 each at the end of extra time. Monaghan panellist Trainor scored his penalty in the shoot-out, but the Ranch lost 3-2 to the Cork based side. That match was streamed live on the Electric Ireland You-Tube channel and website and afterwards St Marys Manager Gavin Gilly told us of his admiration for Trainor.
