Ireland fall to France in World Cup send off game

It was a typical send-off game to some degree.

It should have been a party for the girls in green, but the flying French had other ideas.

Ireland losing 3-0 at home, shouldn't be taken lightly, but there are more important things to come in two weeks.

What must concern Vera Pauw is how Ireland lost their way once Katie McCabe was withdrawn.

A new record for a home game of 7,6333 were in Tallaght Stadium for the big send-off. However for 30 minutes they saw a very blunt Ireland.

It was a tame game early on. Both sides undoubtedly had their eyes on the prize of two weeks time at the World Cup.

Ireland skipper McCabe rolled her ankle mid-way through the first-half. Pauw not taking any chances on McCabe's fitness by withdrawing the Ireland captain.

However, Ireland lacked any momentum down the left wing once McCabe was withdrawn. They also lost the game in the centre of midfield.

France took the lead a minute into first-half injury time. Larkar showed Izzy Atkinson a clean pair of heels down the right wing. Heather Payne attempted to cut the ball out, only for it to fall to Larkar to fire home from close range. Her first international goal.

Two minutes later and France had doubled their lead. The French worked the ball into Eugeine Le Sommer to pop the ball into the high into the corner of Courtney Brosnan's net.

Ireland struggled to get a hold of the ball after the resumption. France dominating the game. Larker given a free header to make it 3-0.

While Pauw made changes, Ireland were blunt in attack and never forced a chance. Disappointment indeed, but bigger fish is yet to fry.
