Two motorists in Northern Sound region due in court following separate drink and drug driving incidents

Two motorists in the Northern Sound region are due in court following separate drink and drug driving incidents.

On Saturday night, Monaghan gardaí arrested a male on suspicion of driving under the influence of an intoxicant.

The driver tested positive for cocaine following an oral fluid test.

At around the same time, a car in the Virginia area was driving at speed with its lights off and narrowly missed vehicles stopped at a checkpoint.

A foot chase ensued and the driver was arrested for drunk driving – both drivers were charged, with court dates to follow.

Meanwhile, Bailieborough gardaí detained a vehicle at an Operation Fanacht checkpoint in Ballyjamesduff after the car was found to have had no NCT since 2018 and no tax since 2017.
