Deputy with the Irish Farmers Journal, who is from Cavan, has been explaining how blue tongue spreads through animals.
Adam Woods was speaking in reaction to the news of an outbreak of the disease in County Down.
As a result a 20 kilometer temporary control zone has been put in place.
Mr Woods explained that it has to be spread by a biting midge that bites an infected animal and that midge goes on then to bite a clean or healthy animal and then that animal gets infected.
Speaking on the Joe Finnegan show this morning, he explained the implications of outbreaks of the disease.
