Events created by climate change have no respect for borders.
That’s according to Chief Fire Officer with Monaghan County Council Dermot Brannigan who outlined the importance of building resilience within communities, both sides of the border.
He was speaking in relation to the Resilient Neighbours Programme.
The initiative is designed to handle emergencies where incidents cross over the border, requiring a united response from both jurisdictions.
Dermot says the three year programme will strengthen emergency preparedness, response, and resilience, ensuring coordinated action between statutory agencies.
Speaking to Northern Sound, Dermot said it’s important to improve the current system and to be prepared in every way going forward to ensure that we have built resilience within our communities.
