Cost of traditional funeral driving increase in people opting for cremation

A Cavan funeral director believes the cost of a traditional funeral is driving an increase in people opting for cremation.

The average cost of a traditional funeral now stands at €6,250, up from €4,060 in 2016.

The bulk of this cost involves embalming, selecting a coffin, and funeral home rental

Meanwhile, the average cost of cremation stands at €750, removing a large chunk of the costs associated with traditional funerals.

Speaking on the Joe Finnegan Show, owner of Lakelands Crematorium, Declan Finnegan says this is a large factor in selecting cremation, with the cost of burial plots also on the rise.
