There's been an increase in the number of sexual assault cases in the Cavan-Monaghan region.
According to the latest crime statistics from the CSO, there were 68 sexual assault or rape cases recorded in the region in the first 9 months of last year. This is up from 54 on the same period in 2023, and is also more than double the figure from 20 years ago, where 33 cases were recorded. Gardaí have also reported a high number of fraud and deception cases, with 232 of these incidents recorded up to September last year.
According to the CSO, the number of fraud cases from Q3 2023 onwards have been revised due to the reported backlog in processing suspected fraud crime incidents.
