A local senator believes as a country we have been seen a 'soft touch' when it comes to asylum system.
Senator Sarah O'Reilly says many people have real concerns around the handling of the asylum process here.
She says the government's handling of system is 'chaotic' and has been 'disjointed'. The local representative is hosting a public meeting in Carrickmacross this Monday evening to hear locals concerns and the worries they have.
The Cavan senator says as a representative it's her duty to hear from the people of Carrickmacross, adding that she wanted to know where the government representatives were. Senator O'Reilly says changes in the system need to be made and made quickly.
