A Monaghan Meals on Wheels representative is sounding the alarm over chronic underfunding and soaring costs.
Fiona McCaffery Jones, from Truagh Spirit in Co Monaghan says the demand for service is increasing.
The group is calling for €10 million in ring fenced funding for the Meals on Wheels sector, for the government to take dynamic food pricing into account and also a review of the VAT.
She said in North Monaghan the group deliver 1,400 meals every month.
Fiona is making the point that Meals on Wheels isn't just about food, it also gives great social contact and care that comes with the integral service.
Speaking on the Joe Finnegan show this morning, Fiona explained how it operates.
