A local memory café offers an outlet for people in Cavan living with dementia.
As it stands, there are over 70 memory cafes in the country, including in Cavan.
In Cavan Town, The Forget Me Not Musical Café allows dementia patients to socialise with their loved ones in a different environment rather than at a nursing home.
It runs on a monthly basis, with over 100 attendees, and focuses on music with a few refreshments.
Speaking to Northern Sound, co-founder Carol Beattie outlined why she got started.
"It came about because my husband was diagnosed with dementia in 2004. At the time, there was nothing for people with dementia in Cavan. I found through experience over the years with my husband, that music was the only thing that really gave him any kind of stimulation. He could react to music and music, even the words of songs he remembered before he even remembered my name. So I thought, we really have to do something here. I got in touch with Loretta, who was a retired nurse, and she and I decided we'd have to do something. We founded the Forget Me Not Cafe."
