A 56-year-old man has been refused bail and further remanded in jail in relation to a fatal collision in Co Monaghan.
Ion Bucurica appeared at Monaghan District Court today charged with dangerous driving causing the death of the mother of two, Emma Mackeral.
The Romanian national who resides in France appeared in front of Judge Raymond Finnegan over the alleged offence.
A contested bail application took place in relation to the alleged charge that the lorry driver faces. Gardai outlined that they were contesting the bail application on the grounds of the serious charges that Mr Bucurica is facing and they believed he was a flight risk due to having no ties to Ireland.
Inspector Damien Martin outlined to the court that this in an investigation that is currently on-going. Solicitor for Mr Bucurica, Roisin Courtney asked for judge to grant bail to her client, adding that members of his family had travelled to Ireland from France to be in court today.
The case is in relation to Gardaí and emergency services attending a collision involving a HGV and a car on the N2 at Mullaghnee, Annalitten, Castleblayney that occurred in December.
Emma Mackeral, the driver of the car, was pronounced dead at the scene. It's alleged that Mr Bucurica drove a vehicle in a manner that was dangerous causing the death of the Co Monaghan woman and he was arrested at the scene.
Judge Finnegan refused bail on the grounds that the accused had no links to the state. He was remanded in jail to appear at Monaghan District Court via video-link on January 26th for DPP directions.
