The Minister for Education and Youth, Hildegarde Naughton is visited a number of schools in Co. Monaghan today.
After visiting Inver College in Carrickmacross this morning, the minister visited St. Dympna's National School in Tydavnet this afternoon.
While at the school, Minister Naughton made she would "progress" the purpose built special education class in the school, so that it will be ready for students in September.
Speaking to Northern Sound in Tydavnet, the minister explained that she wants to ensure that children are in mainstream classes where possible.
However, she acknowledged the need to provide special classes within schools.
Minister Naughton outlined what the St. Dympna's has to offer.
She said: "Just to see the wonderful work that is happening here, the fantastic teachers, staff, SNAs, meeting with the parents, and of course, the fantastic children who put on a great performance for me.
"They were talking about all the wonderful they are doing across the arts, sport, the curriculum, and I'm particularly taken by the inclusivity of the schools here in Monaghan.
"Here in St. Dympna's they have a purpose built special education class ready for children to fill. I will be working with Deputy David Maxwell in relation to progressing that to make sure that we get children in there for September," Minister Naughton added.
