The Sunday Independent is reporting today that a local Monaghan councillor has been banned from driving for three years following a drink-driving conviction.
Fianna Fáil's Seamus Coyle was found to be over three times the legal alcohol limit after being stopped in Cootehill, Co. Cavan last November.
The 55-year-old, a former cathaoirleach of the Ballybay-Clones MD, pleaded guilty and was also fined €500 at Cavan District Court on Thursday.
This is not Coyle’s first road traffic offence- he received a four-year ban and 240 hours of community service in 2017 after being convicted of driving without insurance.
Fianna Fáil says it was unaware of the latest charge and plans to speak with the councillor.
