Planning permission has been granted for a major housing development in Cootehill.
The new houses are due to be built at Magheranure and will include a mix of duplex units, bungalows and and semi-detached houses. Greyrock Trading Limited applied to Cavan County Council in October to construct 26 new units in Cootehill. The 26 units would be made up of 20 duplex units in three 3-storey blocks comprising of 10 two bed and 10 three beds. Four single-storey semi-detached bungalows and two two-storey three-bed semi-detached houses are also included in the application. A new service road and urban open space make up the final part of the application. The proposed houses were subject to a number of submissions including from the residents of Bellamont View. They have raised concerns including the ability of the existing road to cater for additional traffic, road safety works in the area, and they argue that the land on which the houses are to be built is not owned by the council, and the landowner has not consented to this development. Cavan County Planners report states that the proposed new access road is being built off a local road, which is in the ownership of Cavan County Council. They also state that the applicant must submit proposals to curtail excessive speeds along the straight pieces of access road.
Plans for the development were granted with 43 conditions attached including that the developers pay a contribution fee of €130,000.
