A public protest over safety concerns at Whitegate Cross outside Virginia is set to take place later this afternoon.
Locals are calling for park and ride faculties to be put in place at the location for people living in the wider area.
Independent Councillor Shane P O'Reilly has organised what he has described as a peaceful and safe protest to highlight people’s concerns in relation to the dangerous junction along the N3.
He said that that safety concerns had been flagged going back almost a decade. The protest will take place from 4.30 this afternoon.
Speaking from the Whitegate junction earlier today Cllr O'Reilly said the situation is 'chronic' and only for the grace of God there has not been a fatality here in many years adding ‘enough was enough’.
Cllr O'Reilly raised a motion at the most recent meeting of Ballyjamesduff Municipal District over this issue.
