Listen Back: Calls for more Gardai in Cavan. A local councillor has called on the Justice Minister to allocate more Gardai to the County of Cavan.
Cllr Damien Brady raised the issue at the most recent sitting of Cavan County Council. He says the Gardai we have in Cavan do great work but they are currently stretched due to declining numbers.
Moreover, he says low numbers of Gardai have a major effect on communities feeling safe and crime prevention. Cllr Brady says a number of improvements needs to be made to encourage more Gardai to join the force.
The local councillor who was a firefighter says more Gardai are needed to tackle the drug issue and the likes of a heighted increase in ant-social behaviour. The Sinn Fein councillor says more Gardai are badly needed and needed now.
