There was a 118 per cent increase in visitors to local forest parks last year.

Both Cavan and Monaghan made it into Coillte’s top ten destinations for 2020.

The number of visitors to Rossmore Forest Park in Monaghan town more than doubled last year.

It was the second most popular recreational park in all of Ireland last December with 24,713 people visiting.

That’s a 138 per cent increase on the figures from February 2020.

Killykeen Forest Park near Killeshandra was the tenth most popular park and saw a 62 per cent increase since this time last year, with 5,829 people visiting in December.

Ticknock Forest in the Dublin Mountains was the most popular Coillte owned forest in 2020, with almost 31,000 visitors a month.

Coillte's Communications Manager Pat Neville says there’s many benefits to people making the most of their local forests.
