A Go Fund Me page (which can be accessed by clicking this link) has been set up to raise some much-needed funds for a Carrickmacross youth who was diagnosed with cancer at Christmas.

Jean Woods’ 18-year-old son Stephen has stage 4 Glioma - a type of tumour that occurs in the brain and spinal cord.

The specialised treatment he needs is only available in Texas and will cost the family €300,000 to access.

Jean says she just wants to give her son the best chance at recovery that he can get.

"Doctors said that Stephen's cancer was incurable," added Jean.

"Stephen asked if he was going to die and he was told that his life would definitely be shortened.

"Even with chemo and radium treatment, the tumour was going to grow back and Stephen would experience the symptoms all over again."
