Aldi Ireland has reiterated its "commitment" to Monaghan town after activity was observed at the McNally's car park site which is earmarked for the development of a new store.
The company was responding to reports that new fencing and boarding was erected around the site in recent days.
A spokesperson said the company would continue to work to "reach agreement with Monaghan County Council" and remained committed to the plans for the county town.
Meanwhile, Cavan County Council gave the green light last week for a new Aldi store in Cootehill.
25 permanent jobs will be created with an additional 60 jobs during the project's construction phase.
