Listen Back: Cllr Carmel Brady 'very humbled and privileged to become first citizen'

Fine Gael's Councillor Carmel Brady says she is very humbled and privalaged to become the next Cathaoirleach of Cavan County Council.

Cllr Brady has been elected three times to the Bailieboro Cootehill Municipal District.

The proven vote getter also sought a seat in the 2024 General Election.

Cllr Winston Bennnett proposed her to be the next Cathaoirleach of Cavan County Council.

He said that Carmel has always put her community first in everything she has done adding that he believed she would make a wonderful chairperson over the next 12 months. A very emotional Cllr Brady told the packed chamber of councillors, friends and family that she hoped her taking the role would encourage other women to enter politics.

Fianna Fail’s Cllr Niall Smith was elected as Leas Cathaoirleach for Cavan County Council. Cllr Brady joined Ronan Gargan on today's show.
