Figures released to Councillor Colm Carthy show that as of the end of January, 1,289 people were on a housing list.

Almost half are waiting for a house in the north Monaghan MD, with 36 per cent in Carrickmacross-Castleblayney.

One and two bed properties are most popular in the county, with 973 waiting for them.

232 people are on a waiting list for a three-bed home, with 84 seeking a larger property.
