"Devastating, sad, and senseless" is how local woman Krista Hamilton, an American native living in Monaghan, described the shooting dead of 19 children and two teachers at a primary school in Texas yesterday.
The gunman, 18-year-old Salvador Ramos opened fire inside classrooms at a primary school in Uvalde after shooting his grandmother.
It is understood he had purchased two assault rifles on his birthday.
Krista, meanwhile, who was speaking on today's Joe Finnegan Show, says the aftermath of this latest shooting should provide society with an opportunity to finally do something about the gun laws in America.
She added it was a beautiful country that was consistently being shamed by these "acts of evil and violence".
Krista said there was no reason in the world why an 18-year-old boy should walk into a store and buy two assault weapons.
"It just has to stop; enough is enough," she continued.
"The majority of Americans are disgusted, devastated and so, so sad today over this."
