Closing statements will be delivered to the jury of the Ashling Murphy murder trial later today.

The jury in the Ashling Murphy murder trial will hear the final arguments from the prosecution and defence this afternoon. 33-year-old Jozef Puska, of Lynally Grove, Mucklagh, Co Offaly, has pleaded not guilty to Ashling Murphy’s murder along the Grand Canal in Tullamore on January 12th 2022.

Later this morning Ms Anne Marie Lawlor SC for the prosecution will deliver her closing statement to the jury. It comes over three weeks after she opened the trial before Mr Justice Tony Hunt at the Central Criminal Court. Ms Lawlor will then be followed by Mr Michael Bowman SC – who will close the case on behalf of the defence. Once speeches are completed, it will then be the turn of Mr Justice Hunt to deliver his charge to the jury, and he has told them he expects that to be completed on Wednesday.
