Gardaí investigations are on-going into the incident that occurred last Saturday.

A Ballyconnell shop owner says he is focused on "turning a bad thing into a positive" after his premises was daubed in pro-Russian graffiti.

Gardaí investigations are on-going into the incident that occurred at around 10pm last Saturday, and no arrests have been made.

Polish national Rafal Szydlowski is the owner of ABC Food Market which was targeted.

In a statement to Northern Sound, he said this act of vandalism should remind people that these terrible acts can happen here and not in faraway places.

However, Rafal added that we "have to stay positive and focus on education and awareness".

He added that "hate is the last thing that we need".
