Brendan Wall has been described as a "competitive" and "enthusiastic" man at his funeral mass in Meath. He died while taking part in an Ironman event in Cork last Sunday, as did Ivan Chittenden from Canada.

Brendan will be buried in the cemetery next to the Church of St. Brigid in Grangegeeth this afternoon, Father Gerry Boyle told the congregation how his family watched him compete in Youghal last weekend.  "He trained hard for the ironman on Sunday and was very excited about it," Fr Boyle continued.

"He had a big smile on his face and waved goodbye as he entered the water. Tina and his family were there to wave him off as were his in-laws. It was an occasion of pride and joy but within a short time it turned to sorrow and loss."
