A collective of Irish based human rights groups is advocating for a fundamental shift in the way we deal with the international protection process.
The 'Roundtable on Migrations in Our Common Home' finds the current system is undermined by the housing crisis, long delays and a lack of access to proper supports.
Joe McCarthy from the Cork Migrant Centre says we need a fair, timely and humane approach to migration.
McCarthy said: "Its in the interest of society that once people receive their status, and are going to remain in Ireland, that they are properly integrated into the local community.
"With access to housing, and education, and health. This is in everyone's interest really," McCarthy added.
