There have been calls for additional support for the post office network in Cavan and Monaghan.
It follows a Dail question by Deputy Brendan Smith to the Minister for the Environment, Climate and Communications, Eamon Ryan.
The local TD asked for an update on when the Inter-Departmental Group report on the Post Office Network will be submitted to the Government for decision.
The Minister stated that his department was continuing to engage with An Post with regard to the matter.
Meanwhile, Deputy Smith said post offices were the "lifeblood" of rural communities in Ireland.
He added that there were other Government services that the post office network would be ideally placed to administer, and that it should be given the opportunity to do so.
