Pierre is one of 2 Cavan artists who made the shortlist.

A young Cavan Artist has been crowned the Winner in the Zurich Portrait Prize.

Pierre Gaultier Swords, age 5 and from Cavan, emerged victorious at an awards ceremony on 6 December, as a winner in the Zurich Young Portrait Prize 2022.

The winning work which will now feature in an exhibition at the National Gallery was a self-portrait of Pierre, which won the category for ages 0-6.

Pierre is one of 2 Cavan artists who made the shortlist, along with Marie Smith, who was shortlisted for the Zurich Portrait Prize for her fired clay sculpture Stephanie.

Elsewhere, Monaghan artist Emily Mc Gardle was also shortlisted for the Zurich Portrait Prize for her drawing Rictus.
