Cavan councillor hits out at plans for more data centres in Dublin

Cllr O'Reilly says it's "illogical" to afford an individual sector such a large portion of the electricity market in Ireland.

A local Aontú Councillor has criticised the announcement of planning permission for two more Amazon data centres in north Dublin.

Data centres accounted for 14% of all electricity demand in the State last year and Eirgrid estimates this will rise to 29% by 2028.

Bailieborough's Sarah O'Reilly says the country's national grid is in a "seriously fragile position" and that over two days last week two separate amber alters were issued.

She added that the current level of consumption is not sustainable.
