DKIT has achieved two of the three metrics needed to qualify for the upgrade and said Cavan could play a key role in expansion.

Cavan County Council has supported a campaign to upgrade Dundalk IT to university status.

At a recent meeting, DKIT gave a presentation outlining the work being done to make it a Technological University.

The college is seeking the support of local authorities in Cavan, Monaghan, Louth and Meath, to upgrade the education opportunities in the north-east.

The lack of current opportunities in Cavan was highlighted by elected representatives, as councillors gave the campaign unanimous support.
