Cavan Credit Union warns of 'telephone scams'

Mr O'Flynn said a credit union will never ask you to give any personal details over the phone and has advised people to simply 'hang up' if they are faced with scam calls.

Business and personal customers of every banking institution are being made aware of ever-more sophisticated scams by fraudsters attempting to steal your money. Just recently, Cavan Credit Union issued a warning to its customers to be aware of a particularly convincing telephone scam. In this instance, the scammers claim to be calling from the Credit Union Card Security team. What is even more alarming is the fact that the person on the other end of the phone will already have your name and the first four digits of your card number.

CEO of Ballyconnell Credit Union, Barry O'Flynn, said even the most tech-savvy among us can find it difficult identify the fake from the real. Speaking to Northern Sound, he wants to assure customers that help is always at hand from your local credit union staff:
