Cavan inquest hears of 18 hours without physical examination

The inquest at Cavan Courthouse with Coroner, Dr Flanagan is expected to return a verdict this afternoon

An inquest will continuing later today into the death of a 12-month-old child who was in the care of Cavan General Hospital.

The inquest heard he went 18 hours without a physical examination by a consultant despite his condition deteriorating.

The first day of the inquest into the death of baby Luke Kelly took place with witnesses set to resume giving evidence later this morning.

His parents Barry Kelly and Helena Lyons from Shantemon, Co. Cavan were present at the inquest and described their son as a courageous little hero who was the most “beautiful, smiley child that any parent could ask for.

The inquest into Luke’s death is centred around establishing the circumstances that led to his condition deteriorating at Cavan General Hospital over a five-day period beginning on the 1st of July, 2023.

The inquest at Cavan Courthouse with Coroner, Dr Flanagan is expected to return a verdict this afternoon.
