Both local authorities in Cavan and Monaghan hit or exceeded their slurry inspection targets.
Targets for local authorities were introduced in 2024 as an attempt to protect water bodies from agricultural run-off.
According to an investigation by TheJournal.ie, the majority of councils missed these targets, however Cavan and Monaghan performed well.
Cavan County Council had a target of 119 inspections, and completed 120 last year.
While Monaghan far exceeded their target of 123 inspections, carrying out 153.
Leitrim was by far the worst performing county, completing just 11% of their inspections
Conor O'Carroll from TheJournal.ie says these inspections are important for highlighting non-compliance.
