'My mother's landline has been cut off almost 30 times since the start of the pandemic'

A Cavan woman whose elderly mother has been left without a working landline has raised her concerns about the situation. Anne Marie revealed that her elderly mother who is aged in her 80s has been left without a working landline for the past three weeks.

According to Anne Marie, the local family are now at their "wits end" due to false promises made by Pure Telecom and Eir.

Speaking on this morning's Joe Finnegan Show, Anne Marie described the situation as "not good enough." She added that with "limited" mobile signal also, she "fears" for her elderly mother's safety and wellbeing.

"My mother is very upset," explained Anne Marie. "She's on her own, the only lifeline she has is her phone so that she can ring and talk to people. I've had friends of hers ringing me to see if she's ok because they can't get in contact with her.

"My mother is totally isolated and there's no human contact in any sort of way. A few years ago just after my father died during Covid she fell and broke her arm and luckily enough I was there at the time, but if it was to happen again there's nobody there to help her. Even to get limited service on the mobile requires her to stand in the middle of a rural field for signal."
