A local personal trainer is advising the public to try and stay active remain active right until the Christmas period.
Darragh 'Dutchy' Holland is the owner of Dutchy's Fitness in Cavan Town.
He has advised that the period around Christmas should be treated as a "maintenance phase."
According to the Clones man, people should keep training right up until the holiday.
He explained that sometimes people use Christmas as an excuse at the end of November.
Speaking to Northern Sound, he said that this makes things more difficult in the New Year.
He said: "In the build up to Christmas, try and keep going for as long as you can.
"Sometimes people use the 'Christmas excuse' at the end of November, which just leaves things very difficult, four or five weeks of nothingness will set them back.
"Around Christmas, the important thing, the weeks around Christmas is a maintenance phase. You want to get the body moving, do some light work outs, a strength workout, a bit of weights, a bit of stretching, get out for a walk," the trainer added.
